On the run!

What’s this? A blog post? Who knew we still did these?! Well, it is a special occasion as we will be releasing our newest episode ‘On the run’ on the 15th of May. Very much inspired by the TV show ‘Hunted’, we take to Hadleigh Castle in Essex where we separate into two teams and play a big game of hide and seek. We are even joined by two guests as they join in on the fun. Check out the trailer below and also keep on scrolling to meet our players with a description kindly provided by Dad!

Who thought grown up hide and seek could be so much fun (and so stressful}, with my trusty side kick (and daughter) Becky we took to this challenge like a couple of pro’s, with only our wits, snacks and a number of disguises to aid us we blended into the countryside like a couple of spanners in a fruit salad. What a wonderful way to spend a Bank Holiday morning!!!!!

The lead Hunter, Conor brings a cool, calm and collected persona to this adventure. He has maps, a good quality phone and a beard you could lose a Badger in, surely there will be only one outcome to this challenge with Conor in charge?

Aided by his cool sunglasses if nothing else Sam is determined to have a lovely day out. Sam is ready to be deployed as the main chaser in the Hunter team and with his competitive nature he's sure to get his Man/Woman.

The senior of the Hunted duo David’s understanding of how bushes work will be integral to their success. He is fully equipped with all the essential survival items….3 wigs, a Batwoman mask and a couple of uninspiring snacks. He hasn’t even contemplated losing!

Becky brings youth but also fear and chaos to the Hunted team. Easily spooked Becky will have to draw on her inner calm and logical thinking to keep the team on the move and focused on their goal. As the time ticks on Becky will inevitably utilise her extensive “tuck shop” to keep the team alive.

That’s a brief run down of what’s to come. As mentioned the episode will be available from the 15th with the intention of both having a audio only podcast in your usual places as well as a version including video on YouTube.

Until then, thanks for reading!

United Plates of America

The independence day, plate guessing game!

Can you think of a better way of celebrating independence day is there than guessing various US states by analysing crudely drawn pictures on paper plates?… Didn’t think so! We play this game in this weeks episode of our podcast which is linked below, but we also thought you may want to play along or see the pictures. Dad has also done us the honour of writing a “fact” about each of the depicted states… However, he doesn’t know a lot of facts about them so that may be a guessing game in itself to whether they are correct or not. Answers will be at the bottom of the page.

What’s in (the) store?

Our new store and the products available

What’s up there? There is a new button between the ‘What’s New?’ and the ‘About’ button. It says ‘Store’! That’s right we now have a store with products designed by us to improve the world of fashion. Father and Son Days has taken the podcasting world by storm and now it is time to take a leap into fashion with T-shirts, Hats, face masks and more coming soon. If looking great isn’t your cup of tea, but tea is your cup of tea, why not grab a mug with our logo plastered on the side. Why not take a look for yourself and check out some really amazing models sporting just some of the products below.

Just here we have David Harding who is wearing a wrinkled (it just came out the parcel) Father and Son Days shirt. This is our lighter style which is in the Athletic Heather colour option (also available in white). You may have noticed the Father and Son Days logo which is embroidered onto left hand side of the chest (close to your heart) with Maroon thread. Upon receiving this product we were genuinely pleasantly surprised how soft the material is and how well it was embroidered. Dad happily wears this on days we are recording podcasts and also any other opportunity he gets.

That isn’t the only FASD product in this image. Dad is also modelling our Father and Son Days Neck Gaiter with blah written all over it which you may recognise as a design we use everywhere. This can both double as a face mask in this modern age or whatever else you use this kind of product for. Personally I don’t use this kind of product, but Dad swears by them and was excited at the opportunity of having one for the Podcast. I am told that on first use it may be a little tight when using it as a face mask, but it quickly stretches to your face shape.

Dad wasn’t the only one to get some new threads. Here you will see me wearing our darker version of our Father and Son Days shirt. Once again this has an embroidered logo, but with white thread this time. This particular colour shirt I am wearing is Oxblood Black, but we also have this available in Black, Navy, Brown and Heather Midnight Navy. There isn’t much more I can say about this shirt which hasn’t already been mentioned about the lighter style. But I can tell you first hand how comfortable this is.

At the end of the day, the reason why we have released these products and created this store is because we have loved making podcasts and want to continue doing them. We are proud of what we have already accomplished and want to show that off by proudly wearing it. We truly do hope you have enjoyed our ramblings too. If you have and would like to support us in continuing to make this podcast to a (reasonably) high standard then please do consider purchasing one of our products. We will be forever grateful. There is more than what we have mentioned in this post, so have a look for yourself and see what you fancy. If there is nothing you like at the moment, then come back at a later date as we intend to add more products. You could also make any suggestions you may have for products by going to the contact page above and submitting a form.

Technophobe

I’d still be trying to post this if it wasn’t for my son

With the latest podcast release titled Fears and Phobias, and my personal “F&P" list growing on a daily basis, it is no surprise that being part of the Father and Son Days has thrown up some challenges to the older member of the duo.

If only he thought to move the Mic down

If only he thought to move the Mic down

As we try to improve the quality of the technical element of the podcast (sorry there’s little hope in an improvement to the content), new equipment means bigger headaches for me. Give me a synthesizer or drum machine and I’m in my element, but I seem have a blind spot bigger than King Kong’s testicles when it comes to the editing software and elements of our social media.

Writing this blog was only possible because Conor walked me through it and when I finish I will be handing my tablet back to him so I don’t delete everything I’ve already typed. However, instead of letting that frustrate me I shall just channel my efforts into other elements like writing a few more silly songs, tap into my life experience for new ideas, embrace my blind spots and look forward to many more years of stumbling through life with only a vague idea of whats going on!

Note: I (Conor) have just checked through this and noticed that Dad had made the risky move of not even saving it… Someday he’ll learn!

POSTMAN: The Musical - The Aftermath

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse

Well there’s no turning back now, it’s out there. It’s available to anyone and the first reviews are in:

“I can honestly say I’ve been going to musicals for years and this is… unique” (Ben Dover - Daily Trumpet)
“At last a musical the deaf can enjoy" (Biffo - Clowns & Clowning)
“My favourite part was the end" (Lucy Lastic - Ferret Fancier Weekly)

Is it perfect? Of cause not! Is it exactly how we wanted it? No, there's always room for improvement, but you have to draw the line somewhere and we drew it here. We laughed a lot doing it, we had a few awkward silences when things got a little heated but we’re proud of it all the same (or at least happier than Mrs Dawson appeared to be at the birth of her new baby!?).

The above represent just a small sample of the positive feedback we’ve received, and we thank you all for going on this journey with us. Seriously though it has been a journey and since it was first suggested as a podcast possibility many hours of graft have been put in (even if it doesn't sound like it) writing songs, recording, writing a script, character development, voice coaching, and putting together the final edit which you hear on the podcast today.

Fancy giving it a listen? Just click the button to be taken directly to the podcast page or listen on your chosen podcast platform by searching “Father and Son Days”

We do this primarily for ourselves (started during lock-down), but it appears that other people are enjoying it too which is an added bonus and nice to hear… If we can make you laugh then that can’t be bad can it!?

What’s next? Well watch this space but be assured we will endeavour to tickle your funny bones (consensually) in new and interesting ways!

Welcome

Welcome to our new digital home!

Hello and welcome to the new digital home of Father and Son Days.

If this is your first time coming across us, we are David and Conor Harding and we are Father and Son. Since February 2021 we have been creating podcasts to entertain ourselves… but it has turned into so much more. We developed a love for what we were doing and it seemed others enjoyed it as well. As time has passed we have developed our podcasting skills and upgraded equipment, which brings us to the main reason for this post. Welcome to our new website!

Though we had no problems with our previous website, we wanted something new and shiny. Something we could customise and make it our own. Thanks to this we can bring you more than just the podcast. We want to utilise this website along with social media to share more with you all such as what we are working on behind the scenes. We want to bring you more content in the form of Blogs and much more. This also gives another great platform to which we can speak with you all just by going to the contact page or leaving a comment.

We hope you will join us on this next step and support the podcast so we can continue discussing absolute nonsense for the enjoyment of your ears.

I guess all that is left to say is “stick around if you wanna hear more!”
